In late 1983, venue promoter Dolores San Miguel asked Dave Light and DeniseR from experimental synth-punk band Primitive Calculators if they wanted to run a Tuesday night venue in a pub in Northcote, called the Commercial Hotel. The hotel had recently been taken over by the owner of the Exford Hotel.
Dave and Denise ran these Tuesday night gigs from February 1984 to late January 1985. The pair also "managed" bands, The Bum Steers and Use No Hooks from 1983 to 1985.
Global Entertainment was the business name Dave chose for the posters that he designed and created.
In mid-July 1984, the Tuesday night venue changed its name to the ‘Bum Club’ and a new poster was designed by artist Fred Negro.
There was also a change of hours due to giving away free food (Chilli con carne, cooked by Stuart Grant).
There was a change of price of entry to $1.
The night would often consist of films, food and happy hour drinks, as well as local and interstate bands including Pizza Sluts, Mr. Bum and PJ Nicholls, Box of Fish, Ku Klux Frankenstein, I Spit On Your Gravy, Bum Steers, Buick KBT, Lynching Party, Shower Scene from Psycho, Spring Plains, The Feral Dinosaurs, Harem Scarem, Orchestra of Skin and Bones, Krang (John Murphy).
